Free St. Patrick's Day Crochet Patterns Online

St. Patrick's Day is March 17, 2017, giving crochet artisans plenty of time to get busy on their holiday crafts. We have an extensive list of free St. Patrick's Day crochet patterns available online for you to use. As you know, colors associated with St. Patrick's Day include green, gold, white and black. You'll want to stock up on yarn of these colors depending upon the project you choose or use some of the following patterns to make something new from scrap yarn you have in your craft closet.

Popular crochet projects for St. Patrick's Day include Celtic knots, shamrocks, four-leaf clovers, St. Patrick's Day hats, baby booties, Celtic and Aran sweaters, shawls, ponchos, scarves, gloves and hats, leprechauns, Irish roses, Irish doilies and pots of gold. There's no question though that if you want to ensure your St. Patrick's Day crochet item is perfectly themed for the holiday you'll want to master the art of crocheting shamrocks.

If you've ever wondered what the difference is between a shamrock and a four-leaf clover, you're not alone. First of all, a shamrock is the symbol of Ireland and it's a clover with three leaves. A four-leaf clover is a clover with four leaves, or you could say a four-leaf shamrock. There really is no difference, only a shamrock has three leaves and we refer to the four-leaf clover by the name "clover." But really, they're all clovers. What you need to focus on is if you want to crochet three-leaf shamrocks or four-leaf clovers.

Okay, let's get on with the free crochet patterns for St Patrick's Day, shall we?

If you want to master a simple, but nicely finished shamrock pattern that consists of a motif you can use for multiple projects, then check out this free pattern from Talking Crochet. It's a shamrock motif that uses worsted weight yarn. You don't have to use the same shade of green, and you are always free to change yarn types and hook size to create the look you want. This is a very nice pattern that should be useful for many St. Patrick's Day projects.

Fellow blogger Suzie of Suzie's Stuff designed a really nice shamrock that can be used in a multiple of ways. Her pattern is simple but don't let that fool you. You can easily appliquΓ© these shamrocks anywhere you want, or follow Suzie's idea and hot glue them to a pin backing! They are super easy to make and fun. Suzie actually has two patterns using the shamrock. The first is the shamrock pin and the other she made a shamrock garland. Great pattern, Suzie!

Chez Crochet has a number of free crochet shamrock patterns perfect for St. Patrick's Day. These include shamrock coasters, shamrock fridgies and shamrock hot pads. You can whip these up in different sizes and use them for multiple uses. Check out these free shamrock patterns here.

If you're interested in crocheting a St. Patrick's Day wreath, then you'll want to check out this fantastic Pot-of-Gold Rainbow Wreath. This is a wonderful pattern that features a colorful rainbow crocheted over a foam wreath with a pot of gold in the center. Check out the picture of the finished wreath and the free wreath pattern at Petals to Picots.

Red Heart has a free pattern for a "Shamrock Afghan" but really it's a four-leaf clover. The afghan is very pretty and a perfect gift for those celebrating St. Patrick's Day. You can check ou the afghan and free pattern in the link.

Maggie's Crochet has a wonder TP Topper free pattern featuring a St. Patrick's Day hat. If you're looking for something festive for your bathroom this holiday, then you'll definitely want to check out this easy pattern.

Those who want to wear something festive on St. Patrick's Day might want to check out the free crochet pattern for the "Lucky Irish Hat."

Are you going to crochet something for St Patrick's Day?

Crochet Sweaters: Six gorgeous, free patterns online

There may be nothing more satisfying than making your own crochet sweaters. It’s often one of the first projects many people choose to complete (after scarves, that is). Baby crochet sweaters are popular items, but today, we are focusing on crochet sweaters for women. Here are six, gorgeous free crochet sweater patterns for women available online.

The Becoming Jane sweater is a free pattern from the book AUSTENtatiousCrochet. The book features 36 contemporary designs from the world of Jane Austen. The crochet sweater pattern runs in sizes from XS to 2XL.

The second crochet sweater pattern is from Berroco yarns and it is the Twyla cardigan. The sweater is for experienced crocheters and the pattern is for sizes XS to XL. The sweater is perfect for fall and winter weather or on a chilly evening.

The His and Hers sweaters are from Crochet-World and the free pattern is available in sizes XS to XL. These sweaters are perfect for a cool winter evening. The pattern is in PDF format.

The Cuff to Cuff sweater is shown in purple and comes from Red Heart. The free crochet sweater pattern is available in sizes Small, Medium, Large, X Large and XX Large. The pattern is in PDF format.

The next pattern is the BoatNeck Pullover. The pattern is in PDF format and runs in generous sizes. The pattern is available in Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, 2/3 XL and 4/5 XL.  The pattern is easy and is very pretty, making it a great addition to any woman’s wardrobe.

Six Plus Size jackets and cover-ups: Free crochet patterns

Today we have six plus size jackets and cover-ups, free crochet patterns that are perfect for those in larger sizes. It can be difficult to find plus size patterns in crochet styles, so hopefully these will be a perfect addition to your summer wardrobe.

The first pattern is pictured above and is the Zen Jacket in light, periwinkle blue. It’s an intermediate level pattern from Caron and uses a beautiful fan pattern. The pattern runs in sizes from Small to 3XL.

The next pattern is the TrippyTunic. It is extremely versatile and the pattern is for a one size fits all. The model is shown wearing a yellow and green version, but you could change the color combination to anything you like. One thing about this pattern is that the design has a spider web look/feel to it. This would be great to whip up at Halloween as well. You could crochet it in black and orange for the perfect spooky cover up. Use white and soft colors for a great summertime cover up. Note, the yarn called for in the pattern is discontinued, but you can easily substitute another yarn. Just check your gauge and you’re good to go.
Our third free crochet pattern is the Tokyo jacket shown in jade green. This is a great cover up that features a solid back. The pattern is for sizes from Small to 3XL. You can download the pattern in
PDF format or read it on the site.

Now we have the Plus SizeTank. This is a user created pattern and the exact size is not listed, but you can get a good idea from the model wearing it. If you are looking for a plus size tank top or chemise crochet pattern, this may be one to try out. I would suggest using a soft, baby type yarn as opposed to acrylic so that your finished garment is as comfortable as it is pretty.

The Sweetie Pie top is a great pattern that you can whip up in three, separate styles. There is the tank top version, the long sleeved, and the bell sleeved options. The pattern is for sizes Small to 3X. I think this pattern’s versatility and generous size makes it a great option for many women who are looking for the perfect plus size top pattern.

The Silk Bamboo CrochetCardigan is our final crochet pattern. This is a Caron’s pattern and is in PDF format. The free crochet pattern is available in sizes from Extra Small to 4/5 XL. This is a very feminine cardigan and is perfect for year-round wear.

Six free crochet patterns for summer: Bikinis and coverups

Summer’s here and that means it’s the perfect time for a new, crochet bikini or swimsuit cover-up. We have found six awesome, free crochet patterns perfect for summer wear. The BermudaBeach Cover Up is pictured first. It is a gorgeous, white mesh crochet dress that is perfect for wear over a bathing suit. The pattern comes from Anno Designs and is the perfect addition to any summer wardrobe.
The next pattern is the Crochet Rio Bikini and Coverup. It is a gorgeous, little set that is perfect for those who want to flaunt their figure by the pool or at the beach, while the cover up top gives just a little more coverage to the tummy area. Note, this is not a plus size pattern and only runs in small, medium and large. You can download the free bikini pattern in PDF format.

Next is the Tasseled BikiniTop from Garn studio designs. The pattern uses a gauge in centimeters, and some may want to convert the pattern to inches. Though this may be cumbersome for those new to crochet, the top is just so gorgeous, I had to include it.

The white bikini top withmatching skirt is a certain eye-catcher. Those who want a bit more coverage will feel comfortable with the skirt, while still showing off their sexy curves. This is another Garn studio designs.

The Party by the PoolCover-up, featured in black, runs in sizes from XS to 5XL. It’s a hooded jacket and you may find yourself in love with this free pattern and embellishing on it. You could easily increase the length if you choose and may find it suitable for more than beach or swimwear. The pattern comes from Caron and is in PDf format.

Our final free crochet pattern is the retro-flair, bathing suit Stripes and a Naughty Air. This was a Circulo pattern and is now hosted on the Internet Archive, Wayback Machine. You could work this bathing suit in a variety of colors to create different looks. While there are three colors of stripes used, you could keep it simple to two colors if you wish. Changing the colors can create a wide array of looks. The boy-shorts, bikini bottoms are back in style, making this retro suit perfect for today’s modern fashion.

Free Halloween Crochet Patterns

(You may want to book mark this page as I will continue to update it with free Halloween crochet patterns.)

Have you started your Halloween crochet projects yet? You may want to get an early jump on things and begin them as we close out August and enter September. There's plenty of time to begin those Halloween home decor projects, costumes, hats, scarves, and just fun, spooky things to create. I've found a lot of free Halloween crochet patterns online over the years and I want to share those resources with you.

Additionally, Annie's has a nice collection of Halloween hats and scarves available on her website. These are perfect for those who live in areas where Halloween brings a crisp chill to the air. We don't experience too much cool weather in October here in Florida.

(UPDATE: The Hats and Scarves featured in the photos below are out of stock at Annie's. Give me some time and I will hunt them down and do my best to find some alternative pattern sources for them. Sorry, but these aren't available in the links. I will keep the links up in case they put them back up, but if I find other sources, I'll change the links. Sorry for any inconvenience.)

Free Bikini Crochet Patterns from the 60s and 70s

Well, I've been on a Groovy Crochet kick today sharing free crochet patterns from this site that is no longer online. Earlier I shared baby and children's patterns from the 60s and 70s and now it's time for some bikinis. Have you crocheted bikinis before? I have and they aren't difficult. These bikinis run in sizes up to a 14, so they aren't geared for plus sized women or those who are well endowed. I haven't worked these patterns or tried to adjust them for larger sizes, so I'm not sure if it's worth the effort.

They do have a 60s and 70s look and I'm sure that someone out there will appreciate them. The links to the crochet bikini patterns are under each picture.

Free Children's Crochet Patterns from the 60s and 70s

Earlier I shared Groovy Crochet's patterns for babies from the 60s and 70s. Now it's time to delve into their children's crochet patterns. The children's crochet pattern collection is a bit larger than the one for babies. It appeared that the site master had intended to add more baby patterns before the site closed. Fortunately, there are plenty of great crochet patterns for kids still online!

Many of these patterns are easily worked up in modern crochet yarns. Choose a baby soft yarn (check the gauge first) and you'll be amazed how you can give a new, modern look to these classics. Today's yarns are available in bright, neon colors and feature textures unlike those from the 60s and 70s. For example, work the poncho in a glittery pink or purple yarn and you'll have a completely different look. Try a sequined yarn for the matching big and little dresses and pair it with a contrasting slip underneath. I love the little boy's cap and matching vest. These could be worked in newer yarns in colors such as blue, green, red, and yellow.

I'm not sure what I think about the "Little Vest Suit." I do like the vest and would make that in pretty colors and maybe add some beads to the ties. I'm not fond of the skirt with ties. That just looks weird to me. I do like the vest though. Soft, baby yarns would be perfect for my daughter!

If the "Hippy Dippy Vest and Cap" doesn't scream "Fourth of July," I don't know what does. Several of the vest patterns are also available in adult sizes.

As Groovy Crochet is no longer online, these patterns are hosted at the Internet Archive "Wayback's Machine." The links to each free crochet pattern is underneath the photo.

Free crochet baby patterns from the 60s and 70s

When I first began browsing the Internet for crochet patterns, I found a website named "Groovy Crochet." The site featured many out of print patterns from the 60s and 70s. As fashion is a revolving art, many of the styles that came out during the Hippie days are now fashionable.

Well, fastforward to 2014, and Groovy Crochet is no longer active. The Internet Archive's "Wayback Machine" has preserved the site as it was and I want to share some of these wonderful, crochet baby patterns from the 60s and 70s with you.

I do not own copyright on these patterns, and you can find their respective information on the site. This is an archived site that features these great patterns that are funky, fun, colorful, and whimsical. Best of all they are easy to whip up and you can bring back some of these awesome styles for your baby.

Free Crochet Pattern Book: Crochet scarves, booties, and afghans for fall

Lion Brand Yarns released a wonderful free crochet pattern book. Included are 15 crochet patterns for scarves, booties, afghans, shrugs, pillows, and cardigans perfect for fall. Okay, so it's August in Florida and will be over 100 degrees today, but fall is right around the corner. It's never to early to begin those seasonal crochet projects! We want to ensure that we're ready when the cooler weather comes. We have holidays like Labor Day and Halloween coming up, and we know how quickly consumer focus shifts to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Trust me, August is the perfect time to begin crocheting scarves, hats, and afghans that will keep you warm when the night breeze brings a chill to the air.

The Two Color Fur Striped Crochet Scar is a fun and whimsical fashion accessory that adds a bit of warmth. I've enjoyed working with Lion Brand's Fun Fur Yarn. If you haven't used these yet, you're in for a treat. They are very forgiving (perfect for beginning crochet projects) and really make a beautiful furry look. I
15 Free Crochet Scarf Patterns, Afghan Patterns
created a set for my daughter when she was 5-years-old that included a hat, scarf, poncho, skirt, and matching purse. She simply adores the set and feels as if she's wearing something luxurious! While this is a Fun Fur scar pattern, it is the perfect introduction to using this yarn and seeing how much it offers.
Lion Brand Fun Fur Yarns on Sale Now Definitely check out the yarn, just to get a look at the vibrant colors available. The scarf pattern calls for champagne and orange, but you can choose any color you prefer. My personal preferences lead me towards Purpletini, Neon Lemon, Cobalt, and Flamingo.

Another project included in the free crochet pattern book that I like is the crocheted clutch. This pattern uses Vanna White's yarn "Vanna's Sequins" and is a very nice design. Personally, I would choose different colors for the project than those in the photo. Color Options for Vanna's Sequins Yarn
are plentiful and I like the Sterling, Merlot, and Midnight combination. I would also like to crochet this clutch in Ruby. Many of these shimmery, glittery yarns are available in tones that complement any outfit you are wearing. You could easily take this clutch from the restaurant to the opera house!

I think the Posy Baby Booties are perfect for St. Patrick's Day
Now, the Posy Baby Booties are set for fall, but I think these are absolutely perfect for St. Patrick's Day! They are crafted in Vanna's Baby yarn, though they have the look of a heavy worsted. They are warm, comfy, and soft. I'd still take them out in March though.

What may be the most adorable pattern in this book is the crochet Cowboy Booties pattern. These are worked in neutral honey and beige tones, but you could really glam these up by switching the yarn color. A pair for a baby girl who's wearing a denim outfit could be worked in black and a contrasting color (white,
Free Crochet Cowboy Booties Pattern
red, purple or silver) or make them ultra feminine in pink and white. The pattern is simply adorable and I think these crochet cowboy booties will be a big hit for anyone who makes them. There are more patterns in the free crochet book for you to check out. I shared with you my favorites, but if I had to pick one pattern above all, I'd have to say it's the Cowboy Booties. By altering the color pattern, you can whip these up in no time and have the perfect fashion accessory for both boys and girls!
